Young Love & Modern Romance in Margate.

This colourful wedding editorial was created at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns in Margate, with a brilliant creative team including photographer Joanna Bongard and stylist Camille Roman. The idea was to bring a sense of youthful energy and modern romance to the old seaside bandstand, using bold colour, contemporary styling and plenty of texture.

For the flowers, I wanted to bring some softness and natural movement into the strong geometry of the bandstand.

Rather than creating one large, symmetrical floral arrangement, I worked with smaller living table arrangements and clusters of flowers, allowing the colour and shape to move around the space. Asymmetry was important. The arrangements had movement and a slightly unruly quality, which helped bring a sense of life to the setting.

Flowers in a contemporary setting

The Oval Bandstand is such an interesting backdrop for a wedding. Its strong architectural lines and open, coastal setting gave us something very different to work with than a traditional wedding venue.

The flowers helped soften those lines without hiding them. That balance between structure and looseness, colour and simplicity, architecture and nature is something I really enjoy exploring in my floral work.

A wedding that feels like you

The idea behind this editorial was to create something for a couple who would want their wedding to feel personal, playful and a little unexpected.

For me, that's what makes wedding flowers exciting. They don't need to follow a particular formula. They can be colourful, sculptural, loose, abundant, minimal, romantic or a mixture of all of those things.
